Rotala rotundifolia is widespread in Southeast Asia and has a high range of variation.The new variety originating from Laos is extremely decorative and very adaptable. The reddish brown stems contrast nicely with the light green to olive green leaves. Under intense lighting, the shoot tips may also turn slightly orange-red. Rotala rotundifolia 'Laos' doesn't just look good in the aquarium, even for wabi kusa is this variety ideal and with a little patience you can even enjoy the beautiful flowers.
This light green variant of Rotala rotundifolia was found in Laos. It resembles Rotala rotundifolia "Periya" that originates from India. As well as that plant, it has a bushy submerged growth habit.
Generally, the forms of the very variable Rotala rotundifolia are quite easy aquarium plants. However they look best with good lighting, CO2 addition and complete macro- and micronutrient supply. The bushy growth is maintaining by occasional trimming and replanting of too long shoots.
Rotala rotundifolia "Laos" looks especially well as a bush in the midground. It provides an effective contrast to dark green and red plants with its light green colour.
