Rotala sp. 'Ceylon'

Ceylon Rotala, scientific name Rotala rotundifolia, Ceylon variety. This form was first exported from the island of Sri Lanka (Ceylon). It gained its popularity thanks to Takashi Amano, the founder of the natural aquascape, who used it in his aquariums.

Initially, Ceylon Rotala was used mainly by aquarists from Asia and was practically not found in Europe. Since 2012, a variety known as Rotala sp. "Pink" has become widespread among European aquarists, which exactly repeats the Asian form. Currently, it is customary to consider both names as synonyms for the same plant.

Outwardly, it resembles Rotala round-leaved, but with narrower leaves and short internodes. Stems tend to grow vertically. The lateral shoots rushing upward give the bush an upward direction.

In a favorable environment with a moderate level of light, the leaves become light green with a reddish or light pink underside. In intense light, the tops of the shoots turn red.

In spacious aquariums with nutrient soil they can reach a height of 80 cm. For this reason, it is recommended to place them in the background or in the middle ground, depending on the size of the tank. Considered easy to maintain. Excellent growth tolerance over a wide range of temperatures, pH and dH.
